We spend most of our time designing incentive trips for other people, so it was a real treat to be on the other side of one. In May, as one of the top sellers in meetings, events and incentive travel, I was invited on an incentive with Grecotel to Cape Sounio in Greece.

A villa on the cape
Grecotel Cape Sounio sits on the coast south of Athens, looking out across the Aegean towards the Temple of Poseidon. I stayed in a two-bedroom villa, which set the tone for the whole trip: space, privacy and that view every morning.

Dining somewhere new every day
What made this trip special was the food and the places we ate it. Every day we dined out together as a group, in exclusive spaces around the resort and the surrounding area. Long tables on sunset terraces, chilled rosé to welcome us, and evenings that ended with Greek dancing under the stars.

It’s a brilliant example of something we always say to clients: the moments people remember from an incentive are rarely the room or the flight. They’re the shared meals, the views and the evenings when everyone is together.

What I brought home as a planner
- Change the setting, not just the menu. Dining in a different exclusive space each day kept the trip feeling fresh from start to finish.
- Space matters. A villa gives guests somewhere to unwind away from the group, which makes the time together even better.
- Let the location lead. With a view like Cape Sounion, the best thing you can do is put a table in front of it.
- Recognition feels good. Being rewarded is a powerful feeling, and it reminded me exactly why incentives work so well for teams.
Thank you to Grecotel for an unforgettable few days, and for reminding me what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a really well-planned incentive.
